The proposed initiative not only addresses the engagement gap but also provides real-world applications for foundational skills. Financial literacy is crucial for long-term success in life, and understanding credit, budgeting and responsible borrowing require careful reading and develop students\u2019 critical thinking \u2013 a skill set beyond basic reading comprehension.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is a matter of social justice and practical necessity, too. This effort aims to provide every high school student with a semester-long personal finance class no matter where they live, what their background is or how much income their family earns. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A recent\u00a0\u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/finlit.champlain.edu\/2023-report-card\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">report card<\/a>\u201d\u00a0from the Center for Financial Literacy at Champlain College <a href=\"https:\/\/financialliteracy.champlain.edu\/report-card-entries-hs\/california-2023\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">gave California an &#8216;F&#8217; in financial literacy<\/a>.
