CalMatters spoke to three people who were detained during the first weekend of the raids and deported to Mexico. Their reports suggest that agents are working under a new playbook that enables them to make arrests using dubious pretexts, and encourages agents to push people to sign removal forms before speaking with an attorney. Mauricio Oropeza, who has no criminal record, was detained while waiting at a bus stop after work. He was then shackled in chains and driven to an ICE tent camp in Texas. These rules aim to reduce air pollution but are controversial because they could also raise gas prices, writes CalMatters\u2019 <a href=\"https:\/\/calmatters.org\/author\/alejandro-lazo\/\">\u4e9a\u5386\u676d\u5fb7\u7f57\u00b7\u62c9\u4f50<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The updated standard is expected to reduce carbon dioxide-equivalent gasses by an amount equal to the emissions of more than 120 million cars on average in a year, according to the air board. Gas prices aren\u2019t expected to rise immediately due to the new rules, and it\u2019s unclear whether they will since it depends on how much the oil industry passes costs onto customers when it buys credits.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But when the fuel standard was last updated in 2011, a gallon of gas rose by an additional <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wspa.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/WSPA_Gas-Tax_2024_Revised-6.19.24.pdf\">9 cents<\/a>. This update could <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sfchronicle.com\/climate\/article\/california-fuel-standard-19894150.php\">add 5 to 8 cents per gallon<\/a>, according to a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.recorderonline.com\/news\/uc-davis-researcher-virtually-no-chance-of-65-cent-hike\/article_7f135332-d41a-4bce-b556-269e24380160.html\">UC Davis researcher<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Republicans have slammed the fuel rules, arguing that they would make the state even less affordable. Disabled environmental service technicians will work their last shifts inside the prison, clock out and walk to their vehicles unemployed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The state posted multiple job openings for custodians at the prison earlier this month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>PRIDE claims their lost job positions will ultimately be filled by incarcerated Prison Industry Authority workers \u2014 and not SEIU members as intended. Prison officials said they wouldn\u2019t comment, and neither would the state human resources department.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Heather Dunn, who has worked at Vacaville for more than five years, doesn\u2019t know what the future holds or where her next job might be. As a 38-year-old single mom, she worries for her 2-year-old son. \u201cHe still needs the things that he needs.
