According to California’s Legislative Analyst’s Office, per‑pupil spending in California ranks in the middle of the states yet your article asserts that California ranks near the bottom and sources an article that reaches no such conclusion.

Gross spending measures are important but ultimately what matters to California schoolchildren is net dollars available for their classrooms. As your article makes clear, retirement costs are devouring more and more of their dollars. Absent reform, even fewer dollars will make it to their classrooms down the road.
