Many of the articles and news shared through social media are false information. What are social platforms doing to prevent the spread of misinformation? Nicole and Elizabeth talk with PolitiFact California reporter Chris Nichols about how Facebook, Twitter and other social platforms are regulating articles shared during this election season.
Nicole and Elizabeth also discuss how the ballot initiative process is used by interest groups with CalMatters political reporter Laurel Rosenhall and Mark Baldassare from the Public Policy Institute of California. This year, Proposition 22, sponsored by Uber and Lyft, has broken the record for the most amount of money coming in for a ballot campaign at $200 million. While ballot initiatives give voters more political power, they’re often political plays made by corporations and organizations with lots of money to override the state legislature.
