Su reportaje también ha sido reconocido por la Asociación de editores de noticias de California, el Premios de periodismo en línea, el Sociedad de Periodistas Profesionales del Norte de California, and the San Francisco Press Club. In 2025, her coverage of dwindling groundwater, polluted drinking water and deteriorating ecosystems won a Golden State Journalism Award for environmental reporting. 

Rachel tiene experiencia en biología y maestrías en inmunología y periodismo científico. Anteriormente informó sobre el cambio climático y la contaminación del aire para CalMatters y también contribuyó a la cobertura temprana de la pandemia de COVID-19.
