Students at university campuses throughout the state are coming together – many times at odds – in their demands for peace and justice between Israel and Palestine. Here is a look at how the divisions are impacting California college students.

As a first-generation college student born and raised in southeast Los Angeles, Hugo Rios has had lifelong aspirations of pursuing a career in journalism. Currently a senior at Cal State Fullerton majoring in journalism and political science, Rios is interested in covering local and national politics, mainly due to its contentious nature and its importance to maintaining democracy. He currently serves as an assistant copy editor for the Daily Titan, in which he recently won two first-place 2023 California College Media Association awards (best-breaking news story and best editorial). Rios has worked on the editorial staff at The Daily Titan for seven semesters, working for the sports desk, then the opinion desk before being promoted to managing editor in fall 2022.
