Environmental protection

Re: “In going after Trump, California is going too far with environmental legislation,” Sept. 9, 2019: Assemblyman Adam Gray insists on clinging to the past, a past of broken water policy, where Central Valley power brokers dictate policy for the rest of the state.

What Senate Bill 1 aims to do is to provide a level playing field to ensure that the federal water project, controlled by the Trump administration, has to meet the same environmental and public health rules that California requires of its own water project for everyone.

Senate Bill 1 is all about Californians protecting our clean air, water and communities. Senate Pro Tem Toni Atkins knows that’s important. Gov. Gavin Newsom, who campaigned on protecting our state from Trump’s rollbacks, does too.
