In 30 of 35 California prisons, fewer than half of workers are COVID vaccinated. Some advocates urge the state to mandate staff shots.

In an effort to accelerate vaccination of teens, California health officials say they will allow pediatricians to obtain doses without going through the state’s problematic registration site. Children ages 12 to 15 may become eligible for COVID-19 vaccines next week.

As harvest season approached, growers begged county officials to vaccinate their workers. But the state and counties didn’t prioritize vaccine doses for farmworkers in February. So the growers and doctors stepped in and set up their own clinics.

Billed as a one-stop shop, California’s $50 million site has instead created nonstop problems. Only 27% of vaccinations booked each day use MyTurn.

California wants to restart in-person inspections of child care centers. Providers are worried that the inspectors, who may not be vaccinated, could jeopardize the health of their charges and their business.

Lawmakers say they'll take no action this year on a bill requiring nursing home owners and operators to get state approval before they acquire, operate or manage a nursing home.

Covered California has $3 billion in federal aid for people who enroll this year or already are signed up. The savings could be hundreds of dollars per month.

Unable to meet state COVID-19 infection criteria, Merced and Inyo counties still can’t reopen most businesses. The status threatens a big Memorial Day event in Bishop, so the town has asked the state to reconsider its rural county requirements.

California has no plans to administer a passport. But the state is sending mixed messages to businesses about the need to verify that people at large events are vaccinated.
