Also think of your family and if they will be happy in Texas. About half of those who moved out to Texas moved back to California within a year because of the weather and they missed their friends.

More about Texas.  I relocated from California to Texas when my job moved out there, stayed for 20 years and have now returned to California to enjoy retirement.

Texas has a higher property tax. I paid twice as much taxes on a $85,000 house and property than I do on my current $175,000 house. Property insurance was about twice as much, primarily due to those storms. Energy costs are about the same, except you run the air conditioner 24/7 from May thru October and that costs a lot.

Also think of your family and if they will be happy in Texas. About half of those who moved out to Texas moved back to California within a year because of the weather and they missed their friends.
