Normal deliveries always performed by midwives in Great Britain

In my country, Great Britain, all normal deliveries are performed by midwives, and a doctor is only consulted or called when there are complications requiring surgical intervention. This has been the case forever.

I find it preposterous that Nurse/midwives are not allowed to practice in California without a doctor’s supervision.
