The Coastal Commission, represented by the California Attorney General, finalized a settlement of years’ long litigation with Hollister Ranch in December 2017. The Legislature intervened in the last minutes of the legislative session by passing Assembly Bill 2534. That was an inappropriate attempt
to undermine a settlement, and I urge Gov. Jerry Brown to veto the bill.

Much misinformation has been spread about Hollister Ranch. The fact is that we at Hollister Ranch have been willing to compromise as shown by our agreement to a fair settlement. There was nothing fair about AB 2534. The last-minute amendment was classic backroom politics. There was no real public hearing due to the 11th-hour push, and the bill raises significant constitutional issues. We look to Gov. Brown to restore balance by vetoing AB 2534.
