There’s a lot of pressure on Gov. Gavin Newsom to pick the right person to fill Harris’ seat. A recent survey by the University of Southern California Schwarzenegger Institute showed California Rep. Barbara Lee (D-Oakland) leading the field of possible replacements. Lee joined Nicole to share her view on Trump’s refusal to recognize President-Elect Biden, the need for political reconciliation between the two parties, a new stimulus package, and her position as the lone congressional vote against blanket use of force by the military.

With the constitutionality of the Affordable Care Act, or Obamacare, being called into question in the Supreme Court this week, California has much at stake. A conservative majority on the bench could strike down the ACA’s mandate to have health insurance or pay a penalty. Elizabeth discussed the implications for Californians with Emily Bazar and Angela Hart from Kaiser Health News, and Sammy Caiola from Cap Radio. In short: California could lose $27 billion in federal funding, health care coverage for millions of people, and most of the efforts to expand coverage since the ACA was passed in 2014.
