With housing prices soaring across California, supporters of a ballot measure to end limits on rent control are making themselves seen and heard all over the state Democratic party convention this weekend in San Diego. They are popping up around the convention center, beating drums and chanting, “The rent is too damn high.” The initiative has not yet qualified for the November ballot but supporters are collecting signatures after a bill to repeal the state law known as “Costa Hawkins,” which limits rent control, failed in the Assembly.
