In summary

Here are the California election results for ballot propositions, president, Congress and Legislature. They will be continually updated.

Californians finish voting today in a primary election that will determine who appears on the ballot in November to succeed Gavin Newsom as governor after his two terms leading the state.

Voters are also choosing candidates in the U.S. House races that will help shape which party controls Congress during President Trump’s final two years in office.

The ballot includes a roster of other statewide offices — lieutenant governor, secretary of state, attorney general, controller, treasurer, superintendent of public instruction, insurance commissioner and members of the Board of Equalization — as well as picks for California’s  Assembly and Senate.

Recent polls in the governor’s contest show Democrats Xavier Becerra and Tom Steyer in a close race with Republican Steve Hilton. The top two candidates, regardless of party, will move on to the November election.

In close contests, it could take days, even weeks, for winners to be declared. Ballots postmarked by today can arrive as late as June 9 and be counted. The secretary of state has until July 10 to certify the results.

As the votes are counted, we’ve got you covered with stories on all the key races, plus continually updated results below.
